Building empathy through digital storytelling – new project FemLab.co

How can informal workers use digital tools to share grievances and communicate directly to the top of the supply chain, allowing their voices to be heard and to shape the future of work? The new 3-year (2020-2022) project Feminist Approaches to Labour Collectives (FemLab.co), a seed-funded initiative by the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC), tackles this question with a focus on women workers in South Asia.

Together with partners in Bangladesh, Germany and India, Catalyst and the activist organization Justice Adda will create a digital storytelling campaign that animates the personal stories of these workers. This will help to build empathy and solidarity through social media engagement and visualizations of labour rights.
